In this article, I am sharing my opinion and experience on why students should study in the morning. I will be discussing the advantages of studying in the morning, why one shouldn’t study at night, and the disadvantages of studying at night.
According to Indian tradition and upbringing, every Indian student is accustomed to waking up early in the morning. In every household, the teaching is that waking up early in the morning keeps the body healthy and reduces mental stress. In fact, what is studied in the morning is retained better.
Since ancient times, waking up early in the morning has been given great importance in India’s educational system. The Gurukul system, which has been practiced since ancient times, also emphasizes waking up early. Waking up early, studying, exercising, and practicing yoga are considered very important.
Whether it’s any competitive exam like UPSC CSE, Staff Selection Commission, IIT, NDA, CA exams, or banking exams, the toppers/successful students of these exams used to wake up early and study. If you ask any successful topper, they will tell you the same thing – that they woke up early and studied.
There is a saying in India that the morning belongs to God and the night belongs to demons. Therefore, even modern science emphasizes the importance of waking up early in the morning. At night, the body and brain need sleep.
If a student wants to break the habit of studying at night, they should practice yoga or exercise in the morning or evening. Studying at night is harmful to both the body and mind. Studying at night can lead to insomnia.
Where I used to teach, many of my students had the habit of studying at night. But following my advice, they stopped studying at night and developed the habit of studying in the morning. Afterward, they themselves thanked me and advised all the other students to wake up early and study in the morning.
If you look at the habits of any successful topper student in 10th grade, 12th grade, college, university, or competitive exams, you will understand that they all studied by waking up early in the morning. There hasn’t been a single topper to date who studied at night. Therefore, students should study in the morning or late morning.
If you have observed someone, perhaps a friend, who studies at night, you might have noticed that their irritability increases, they experience constant headaches, and they develop stomach problems or acidity.
A medical study has revealed that staying up late to study or work prevents proper blood pressure control. Eye problems also increase. Studying at night disrupts mental balance and increases physical and mental fatigue.
The practice of studying early in the morning or at dawn is common in India and Japan. In both Japan and India, every student is expected to wake up early in the morning. Studying in the morning keeps your mind healthy, boosts confidence, reduces irritability caused by studying, and keeps your body healthy.
Advantages for students of studying in the morning –
Waking up early in the morning keeps the mind cheerful, the body healthy, ensures proper blood supply to the brain, reduces the chances of physical ailments, and helps in overcoming mental health issues.
According to research from a university, it has been found that studying in the morning improves memory and retention. Students who wake up early do not suffer from insomnia. Waking up early in the morning regulates the heartbeat and eliminates blood pressure problems. Headaches stop.
The face looks cheerful, and the body feels refreshed. Studying early in the morning reduces the likelihood of developing physical and mental illnesses.
Many students in India suffer from insomnia, but if they study early in the morning, their insomnia and the associated mental stress can be alleviated.
According to research conducted by IIT and AIIMS medical colleges in India, an experiment was conducted on 20 students, and it was proven that students who studied early in the morning had better memory, did not suffer from insomnia, and did not experience any mental or physical illnesses.
Disadvantages of studying at night –
Students should avoid studying at night. This can lead to insomnia, headaches, mental imbalance, irritability, acidity, stomach problems, and memory loss.
According to research conducted by IIT and AIIMS medical colleges in India, an experiment was conducted on students. Ten students were asked to study at night for 10 days, and another ten students were asked to study in the morning. It was observed that the students who studied at night started experiencing headaches, irritability, physical and mental distress, and difficulty remembering their studies.
In contrast, the students who studied in the morning were mentally happy, felt refreshed, remembered their studies well, and did not experience any mental pressure. They did not develop any physical or mental ailments.
Conclusion – The Best study time for students is in the morning. Remember, all the successful toppers prefer a morning routine. Avoid night study. Morning wake-up and study method improve your academic performance.
